World Diabetes Day Celebration

Activity in the workplace Start Date: November 14, 2023
End Date: November 17, 2023
Location: Kidapawan City, SOCCSKSARGEN, Philippines

In adherence to DepEd Order No. 28, s. 2018, the Governance and Operations Division-School Health and Nutrition Section actively commemorated the 2023 World Diabetes Day on November 14, aligning with the global call to raise awareness about diabetes.
World Diabetes Day serves as a unifying platform for individuals with diabetes, healthcare experts, advocates, media, and government entities to spotlight the impact of the condition. This year's theme, "Access to Diabetes Care," emphasizes the prevention and management of Type 2 Diabetes and its related complications. The rallying slogan, "Know your risk, Know your response," resonated throughout the campaign, focusing on understanding the risks associated with diabetes and the significance of timely access to proper information and care.
The week-long event commenced with the Global Diabetes Walk, featuring a 3-kilometer march from the division office to the Provincial Capitol Complex's oval. Participants included division personnel, Provincial PNP representatives, PSDS, and division nurses, inaugurating a series of activities within schools, district, and division offices.
Throughout the week, diverse initiatives took place, ranging from exercise sessions and health talks to blood sugar screenings identifying high-risk individuals. The establishment of Diabetes Clubs aimed to advocate coordinated actions against diabetes emerged as a pivotal initiative. Blue circle selfies, symbolic of diabetes awareness, were encouraged, alongside programs promoting health and fun before office dismissals.
SDS Romelito G. Flores, CESO V, emphasized the role of the PNP as crucial partners in physical and mental well-being, underscoring the significance of investing in one's health.
Dr. Flora Mae Jacobo, Division Medical Officer, spearheaded the event through the Health and Nutrition Section, offering free eye checkups and assessments to all personnel. The blue circle formation symbolized an intensified drive for health promotion, advocacy, and risk assessments to mitigate diabetes-related complications.
The initiative stood as a testament to the Department of Education's commitment to health awareness and emphasized the need for proactive measures to combat the global health challenge posed by diabetes.
