Screening for risk of diabetes in OP setting in non-diabetic patients in an urban city in South India
Abstract:
Background: The prevalence of T2DM is increasing with India in the second place all over the world.
Objective: To check the risk score of Type 2 Diabetes in the next ten years for the population without a current diagnosis of diabetes visiting the OPD of the Diabetology/Endocrinology Clinic using the online diabetes risk assessment namely “TEST2PREVENT Know your risk of Type 2 Diabetes”
Materials &; Methods: 115 nondiabetic patients visiting the OPD with consent to undertake the risk assessment tool in English. 21 were male and 94 were female with mean age of 42.25±11.8 and 38.8±12.1years respectively. The 8-step questionnaire was answered.
Results Summary: Pearsons’ Correlation between Risk Score and Age was 0.4219(p<0.0001), with BMI 0.7014(p<0.0001), Weight 0.519(p<0.0001), and Waist Circumference 0.6527(p<0.0001). It was a positive significant correlation with all these parameters.
Conclusion: It was found that 34(29.57%) had Low Risk Score, 40(34.78%) had Slightly Elevated Score, 25(21.74%) had Moderate Score, 15(13.04%) had High Risk Score and 1(0.87%) had Very High Risk Score.
