Rural community-based diabetes screening programme is conducted for the second time on 14th November 2023 at rural health research centre of Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. This time we are expecting to screen 200 of adults above 20 years in Kataragama District secretariat in Uva Province. The aim of this annual event is to improve the public awareness of diabetes and empowering the rural communities to reduce the risks of diabetes. In this programme, we are planning to screen for diabetes (Fasting blood sugar, HbA1C). We will monitor blood pressure, perform the ECG and measure the anthropometric parameters. Further, we will screen the known diabetes patients for retinopathy and neuropathy. Nutritionists will advise the participants on dietary plans and lifestyle changes.
