On World Diabetes Day, annually celebrated on November 14th, the large-scale event "Marathon in Diabetes, 24 hours of Online Transmission on Diabetes Issues" was organized, by diabetes specialists, for the first time in Romania. The event, held non-stop for 24 hours, brought to the fore essential information on diabetes, thereby providing a broad platform for information, awareness and education for both the general public and healthcare professionals.
Key features of the "Diabetes Marathon" included:
24 hours of medical information: The event provided access to crucial information about diabetes, covering a diverse range of topics, from current treatments and future perspectives to effective ways of managing the condition.
24 hours of awareness and information: An important aspect of the event was its emphasis on raising awareness about the diabetes issue, highlighting its societal impact. Live broadcasts and presentations offered information to support the prevention and efficient management of diabetes.
The structure of the event comprised two distinct components:
Information/Communication Component for the General Public
o This component included live and recorded broadcasts, press conferences, workshops, premier materials, and discussions on digitization and Artificial Intelligence in diabetes management. All these elements aimed to offer a comprehensive perspective on diabetes, addressing a diverse audience.
Scientific Component for Healthcare Professionals
o For healthcare professionals, the event provided sessions of medical education covering scientifically relevant topics for diabetologists and specialists in related fields.
The "Diabetes Marathon", organized for the first time at the national level by diabetes specialists, represented a large-scale initiative that brought together over 50 doctors, journalists, patients, representatives of patient associations and authorities. It provided them with a common platform for the exchange of ideas, information, and experiences. With the active involvement of authorities' representatives, the event received the institutional support necessary to amplify key messages related to the importance of preventing and managing diabetes.
The "Diabetes Marathon" meant not only an informative event but also a collective effort to address challenges associated with diabetes and promote health at the national level.
