Diabetes Awareness, Access and Care

Media activityMeeting/Exhibition/FairOther Start Date: November 8, 2023
End Date: November 30, 2023
Location: Nouvelle-Zélande

We are researchers at the Langimalie Research Centre, an adjunct of the Tongan Health Society’s Integrated Primary Health Care Service.

On 8 November we completed a radio interview on the Tongan language programme of the Pacific Media Network which has extensive coverage in New Zealand and the Pacific region. We have also augmented the WDD logo with forget-me-not flowers for cultural awareness. The forget-me-not flower is indigenous to New Zealand and the message in the name of the flower is a reminder that we can always do better and continue to advocate through our research for better public health approaches, care models and services for people living with diabetes.

On 14 November, and throughout the month of November, we will be hosting community meetings to discuss the importance of knowing the risk of type 2 diabetes and the importance of increased access to diabetes services, including early treatment and management. We will be distributing diabetes brochures (in English, te reo and Pacific languages) and WDD wristbands at these events.
