Saving Limbs Saving Lives of People Living with Diabetes
Activity for healthcare professionals Start Date: November 14, 2024End Date: November 14, 2024
In Northern Ontario, Canada, diabetes associated amputation rates are 3X compared to Southern Ontario. We are aiming to reduce this!
We can accomplish this by arming health care professionals (physicians, nurses, allied health and paraprofessionals) with the simplified 60-second diabetic foot screening tool to identify the high-risk diabetic foot. We will also introduce the Wound Bed Preparation 2024 paradigm for optimal diabetic foot and leg ulcer management. There is an opportunity to acquire a toolkit for increased local capacity to save limbs and save lives.
By training the front-line health care professionals, we can increase capacity for diabetic foot
management within their own communities. This workshop is a collaborative effort between
Stakeholders in the North, Community Colleges (Sault College, Cambrian College and Confederation College), ECHO Ontario Skin and Wound (WoundPedia, Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada and Queen’s University). This workshop connects participants from each institution with Northern interprofessional key opinion leaders in leg and foot ulcer care.
