Da Nang Hospital is a specialized medical facility located in the Central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam. It has over 2,000 inpatient beds and nearly 3,000 medical staff members. Each year, the hospital receives more than 12,000 visits for diabetes in various departments, including Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Geriatrics
The Department of Nephrology and Endocrinology at Da Nang Hospital has approximately 130 inpatient beds. Daily, the department examines about 60 inpatients and provides care for around 40 diabetes patients. Diabetes patients are frequently hospitalized due to poor blood sugar control, which can lead to various complications such as hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state, ketoacidosis, infections, heart failure, kidney failure, stroke, and foot ulcers. Additionally, some patients are admitted because of hypoglycemia resulting from an improper diet.
In Vietnam, the Vietnam Association of Diabetes and Endocrinology has created a guide on suitable nutritional formulas for diabetes patients that align with local cultural practices. This guide is available on their website: dinhduongdaithaoduong.vn. We also conduct educational sessions to advise patients and their families on appropriate nutrition for managing diabetes.
We have established a diabetic patient club aimed at providing advice and education on nutrition, exercise, and early detection of complications. This initiative is designed to enhance patients' understanding and management of their blood sugar levels and diabetes-related complications, ultimately helping them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
