Program Components
1 Community Mobilization and Sensitization
Community Engagement: Collaborate with local leaders, churches, schools, and community groups to raise awareness and encourage participation.
Promotional Materials: Distribute flyers, banners, and posters highlighting the importance of diabetes awareness and screening.
Media Campaign: Utilize local radio stations, social media platforms, and community announcement systems to reach a broader audience.
2 Awareness and Education Sessions
Health Talks: Conduct interactive health talks on diabetes prevention, focusing on diet, exercise, and the importance of regular check-ups. Talks will be led by healthcare professionals, including doctors, dietitians, and nurses.
Educational Materials: Provide educational brochures and pamphlets on diabetes prevention and management to all participants.
3 Free Screening Services
Screening Tests: The screening will include:
Blood Glucose Testing: Random blood glucose tests will be conducted to identify individuals with elevated blood sugar levels.
Blood Pressure Measurement: Since hypertension is a common comorbidity with diabetes, blood pressure measurements will also be taken.
Body Mass Index (BMI) Assessment: BMI calculations to identify overweight and obese individuals at higher risk of diabetes.
Data Collection: Participants’ data, including demographic information, medical history, and screening results, will be recorded confidentially to assess the program's impact.
Counseling and Referral Services
Counseling: On-site counseling will be provided to participants based on their screening results. Those found with high glucose levels will receive dietary advice and information on lifestyle modifications.
Referrals: Participants with abnormal screening results will be referred to local health facilities or specialized centers for further evaluation, diagnosis, and management.
