We the PCDGSL members organize a course to educate the GPs in Sri Lanka regarding evidence based management of diabetes mellitus. All the participants are practicing full time GPs in the private sector and part time GPs in the government sector. This is a non profitable course. Type 2 Diabetes and gysglycemia in Sri Lanka is 20% in urban population and 14% in rural population. It is on the incline and cause a big financial burden to the government and individual families. As a result it is very important to educate the GPs regarding awareness, prevention and proper management to prevent the complications such as CKD, blindness and foot amputations. This updating programme for GPs have helped the patients and their families to be much aware about diabetes and improve their compliance in treatment. We hope that this will reduce the burden of this metabolic disorder of our population.
