In recognition of World Diabetes Day (WDD) on November 14th, we organized a week-long series of events aimed at raising awareness and supporting diabetes prevention and management. Our theme this year centers on "Diabetes and Well-being", reflecting our commitment to holistic health that includes both physical and mental wellness. Here's what we had lined up;
1. Mass Media Advocacy: We kicked off with mass media advocacy at various radio and TV stations including Eagle FM, Rapid TV, Aso TV, Kapital FM and Wazobia FM, which spanned from 11th-13th November. We had some health professionals from our partners talk about everything Diabetes, prevention and management strategies, and what the WDD entailed. Awareness was also created about the walk, while inviting all to join in the global walk for Saturday.

2. Social Media Advocacy and Screening in Local Markets (12th-13th November): We continued with social media advocacy campaigns, sharing daily "Did You Know?" facts about Diabetes on our social media stories. Simultaneously, we held free diabetes screening and counselling sessions in two local area councils: Kuje Area Council (Kuje Market and Kuje Secretariat) and Bwari Area Council (Dutse International Market and Mpape Market).

3. Ministerial Press Briefing, Mentorship Visit to School and Additional Screening (14th November): We hosted a Ministerial Press Briefing at FCDA to bring attention to the impact of diabetes on well-being and the need for community action. Additionally, we visited Alderwood School to facilitate a session about WDD. The event was centere around creating awareness and promoting prevention strategies for diabetes among children in primary 3-6. Following the briefing and school visit, we had screening sessions available at United Nations (UN) House and Banex Plaza.
