The World Diabetes Day commemoration, held on November 23, 2024, at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, was a powerful convergence of thought leaders, advocates, healthcare professionals, and individuals living with diabetes, reflecting the theme "Diabetes & Wellbeing." Dr. Ticklay opened the event with a thoughtful overview of the significance of World Diabetes Day, emphasizing the need for sustained awareness and its connection to our regional celebration date. The event featured a compelling keynote address by Dr. Prisca Mureriwa, who delivered expert insights on practical diabetes management strategies and preventing complications. Among the highlights were the inspiring stories of resilience shared by Tadisa Madzinga and Yemurai Machirori, as well as Rufaro Gororo and Heather Koga, whose lived experiences brought advocacy to life. Trust Nechena, a peer educator supported by SolidarMed, offered a glimpse into transformative community-based solutions, while Sr. Joyline Chihota highlighted SolidarMed Zimbabwe’s Pen Plus Project. Thandeka Sibanda provided actionable dietary guidance, empowering attendees with sustainable nutritional strategies. This impactful event also included random blood glucose screenings facilitated by SolidarMed, practical demonstrations, and a shared commitment to redefining diabetes care through education, collaboration, and inclusivity.
