Dear xxx,

On behalf of the global diabetes community, I am writing to urge you to work towards the achievement of the global diabetes coverage targets and Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.

The latest global figures from the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) show more than half a billion people are now living with diabetes. In [country], an estimated xxx people live with the condition – xx% of whom are undiagnosed. In 2021, diabetes led to xxx deaths and xxx USD of health expenditure in our country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has called on Member States to strengthen primary health care systems to achieve UHC by 2030. However, global progress to achieve UHC is falling short.

This is particularly true for diabetes, with millions of people not being able to access the care they need and nearly half of those with the condition remaining undiagnosed. This can lead to an increased risk of developing severe and potentially life-threatening complications, and puts individuals and health systems under increased financial strain.

Urgent action is needed. Together with IDF, I call for your leadership to contribute to the global achievement of UHC. We also request [country] to accelerate progress towards the achievement of the following WHO global diabetes coverage targets by 2030:

· 80% of people living with diabetes are diagnosed
· 80% of people with diagnosed diabetes have good control of glycaemia
· 80% of people with diagnosed diabetes have good control of blood pressure
· 60% of people with diabetes of 40 years or older receive statins
· 100% of people with type 1 diabetes have access to affordable insulin and blood glucose self-monitoring

Achieving these targets will not be possible without improving access to quality diabetes support and care. Ensuring UHC everywhere is the best way to achieve this.

[Personal Story]

On behalf of the diabetes community, we urge you to dedicate sufficient resources to improve access to diabetes diagnosis and care in [country] and advocate to ensure UHC worldwide. The diabetes community counts on your leadership.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
